Tuesday Classes:
Parent - Child Throwing Class - Ages 8 & up /Josh Unterman
Tuesdays 12 – 3pm. 4 Sessions
Single Adult -$120/Adult & Child $150
Beginner to intermediate level students will be introduced to tools and clay basics, how to prepare clay for the wheel, and receive instruction and demonstration on wedging, centering, throwing, trimming, adding handles and spouts, and various finishing techniques. Students will learn how to make bowls, cups with handles, vases and lidded pieces, and paint them with slips, under glazes and safe lead-free glazes. Ceramic influences in our daily lives, and elements of texture, pattern color and design will be discussed throughout.
Parent – Child Coil Building, Piggy Bank Art- Ages 8 & up/Josh Unterman
Tuesdays, 12 – 3pm. 4 Sessions
Single Adult -$120/Adult & Child $150
Beginner to intermediate students will receive demonstration/instruction on how to create a “piggy” or other animal bank, or sculptural vessel form, using a mix of pinch and coil building techniques. Instruction/demonstration for adding handles and other appendages to be introduced. Students will paint their pieces with colored slips.
Parent - Child - Clay & Tile Making Workshops - Ages 5 & up/Amanda Paoletti
Tuesdays 10am - 1pm. 4 sessions
Drop in $10 per hour (includes clay, glaze & firing)
Students will be provided with green ware tiles, plates, etc., and guided through the process of creating impressions on them with seashells, rubber stamps, hands, feet and various animal imagery making tools. Students will paint their pieces with under glazes and a clear glaze will be applied for them.
Wednesday Classes:
Parent - Child - Vintage Folk Art /Jug Head Pottery - Ages 8 and up/A. Paoletti
Wednesdays 10am – 1pm. 4 sessions
Single Adult $120/Adult & Child $150
Prior clay experience helpful but not required.
Students will receive a brief history lesson on the Jug head art of the early 1900’s in North Carolina’s Catawba Valley Potteries. Examples of these inspiring works and their origins will be shared and discussed as a group. Students can throw or hand build their jug/ vessel form. Focus will be on personal expression achieved by sculptural modification of these forms. Students will paint their pieces with colored slips and studio glazes.
Adult Ceramics Class (kids paint your own pottery while mom takes a class!)
Ceramic Sculpture Class/Amanda Paoletti
Wednesdays 10am – 1pm. 4 sessions
$120
Beginner to intermediate level students will be introduced to clay basics, and how to prepare clay, throw slabs and create hand-built vessel forms with a combination of coil & slab building techniques. Students will be instructed on how to make a barrel/smoke firing kiln. A variety of finishes will be available, including cone 6 glazes, colored slips and engobes. Fun kid activities available for children of students during class-time!
On-going throughout the week:
Kids Young & Old Paint Your Own Pottery at As if Studios- Ages 3 & up
Monday – Saturday 10am – 8pm
A variety of pre-made bisque and a huge assortment of colorful underglazes are provided and available for use at the studio on an ongoing bases. Bisque prices include use of studio glazes and firing. No membership or class fees apply.
